Oscars 2011 Red Carpet Picks

The 83rd Ocsar Awards ended the film award season for another year. Films like Inception and The King's Speech raked in numerous awards. I must say I actually watched the entire show... well it was recorded by Mother Tan and I did fast forward some parts but for the most of it it wasn't too bad. I'm very happy for both Natalie Portman and Colin Firth for their well deserved wins, but most importantly the fashion! This year saw an emphasis on the body with women showing their figures off. Red and purple where popular colours, with feathers, tulle and sparkle everywhere. My red carpet favourites are below:

- Cate Blanchett: Daring as ever, the Aussie actress wore a violet Givenchy Couture dress. I love the somewhat oriental dress on Blanchett whom looks statuesque and elegant as ever.
- Halle Berry: Wowing in a nude Marchesa dress adorned with crystals and tulle, Berry looks amazing with the dress complementing her luscious skin tone and I'm a big fan of her short do.
- Natalie Portman: Notably a favourite of mine, wearing Rodarte the designers for Black Swan. Portman simply glows in the purple dress with matching tassel earrings.
- Hilary Swank: Adding feathers to the mix, Swank wore Gucci. The bodice is sequin leading to a feathered train it gives somewhat of a 'sea-swept' feel.
- Sandra Bullock: Looking fierce solo on the red carpet in Vera Wang, Bullock is red hot in the figure hugging dress.

Golden Globes 2011 - Best Dressed

With the beginning of award season comes with accolades and fashion exposure. This years Golden Globes saw a trend of black, body capped sleeves and and form fitting dresses. Not to mention the pregnancies. I chose five of the best dressed ladies of the night featured above.

Miss Portman Cherie

Mentioned previously in my Midweek Fashion Gossip posts Natalie Portman was chosen to be the new face for the Dior fragrance Miss Dior Cherie. Her partnership of Dior led them to redesign her shoe collection to be totally vegan, if only we were all as lucky as that! Now images have surfaced for the print campaign with the companion film ad believed to surface in March. The ad is tres intense Portman whom is topless looks chic and sexy, bringing a new look to the fragrance which has been previously marketed as more cute and whimsical. I can't get enough of Portman I love love love her! Updates as they come.

Natalie Portman - InStyle USA February 2011

Black Swan actress Natalie Portman lands the February cover of InStyle USA. The star has also revealed that she is pregnant and is engaged. And if that isn't enough with Awards Season and Portman's spectacular performance in Black Swan she is a favourite clean up well. The cover shot is nice, focusing on Portman's face with a rich colour palette of reds and wines. love love love.

With the countdown to the end of the decade/2010, I thought I'd feature my favourite covers of the year. The majority of them either come from the UK or Australia, I guess I prefer more artistic and artsy covers than just text and a colour block in the back? Anywho here are my favourites, and I hope that 2011 brings more intense and love love lovely covers.

Black Anticipation

I cannot wait to see Black Swan starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Having been critically acclaimed, breaking Fox Searchlight records and featuring fashion from fashion sisters Rodarte this film is pegged to be a big winner this award season. I'll be keen to see the dresses which Portman and Kunis choose from for these ceremonies. But back to the movie. In anticipation, and sheer excitement I've come across various featurettes for the movie, this particular one touches on the fashion/costume aspect. Love love love.

- Jimmy Choo is to begin designing men's footwear again. His last men's collection was when they collaborated with H&M cont.

- Black Swan Actress Natalie Portman has become the latest face of Dior's perfume Miss Dior Cherie cont.

- Mad Men's January Jones is the new face for Versace's Spring/Summer Campaign shot by Mario Testino. cont.

- With Leighton Meester's co-star Blake Lively landing a Chanel campaign it seems that Meester herself is getting fashion attention with her Vera Wang Fragrance campaign and a rumoured campaign with Italian brand Missoni. cont.

- The TV hit Project Runway is getting a spin off, Project Runway: Accessories. I wonder is Heidi Klum will host the show? cont.

Natalie Portman - Vogue January USA 2011

Natalie Portman the Black Swan actress is on the cover of Vogue USA for January 2011. The cover looks somewhat vintage, and funnily enough it looks quiet familiar to her May 2002 cover of Vogue. All in all though I can't fault Portman's cover shot her expression and positioning works really well. I'm hoping for a really intense spread, and to see Black Swan!

Looks of the Week - November 29th 2010

Blake Lively: Its the Gossip Girl's third appearance on the list, which only seems fitting as she was labelled one of Vogue's Best Dressed. Lively wore a draped Prabal Gurung dress to the Annual Footwear News Achievement Awards.

Kelly Osbourne: Dressed up to receive an award at the Divine Design Gala. Osbourne's blue dress played on the classic fitted dress with the addition of structured shoulder collars. 

Mila Kunis: Kunis features twice today, first attending Gotham's Independent Film Awards in an Oscar De La Renta dress. I love the detailed flowers on the dress, and the matching belt makes the look chic and beautiful. Then for her second look Kunis wears a muted Elie Saab gown to the Black Swan Premiere in New York. 

Natalie Portman: Attending the Gotham Independent Film Awards, Portman wore a one shouldered black dress from the Lanvin ♥ H&M Collection. Coupled with red hot lips and a bejeweled Dior clutch. Love love love  

Zoe Saldana: Wearing Burberry Prorsum, Saldana attended the Beat the Odds Awards in Los Angeles.

Mila Kunis - Nylon January 2011

Mila Kunis lands the January cover for Nylon for 2011. Famously known for her role in That's 70's Show, Kunis has recently stepped out of the shadow of her former character landing roles in Date Night and the upcoming movie Black Swan. Kunis looks intense on the January cover, loving the sleek blazer and the belt and pant details. Love love love. I'm very eager to see Black Swan featuring Natalie Portman and Kunis, which is a psychological thriller about two New York ballerinas vying for the lead role in Swan Lake.
