THE SKIN EDIT : TOOLS

skin
I am not a dermatologist, expert or guru. However I do have a Face, Skin, Hair, etc... so that makes me a consumer at least. With the mounds of products I want to try and then consequentially buy, I do get to points where I look back and wonder 'was it worth it?'. This is my Edit on products that I either think are GreatSo So and Not for Me. Do not get offended if there's something I don't like that you like, we all have different Faces, Skin, Hair, etc... These are my honest thoughts on the Claims of each product...

There are Skincare products and then there are Skincare Tools. This is the next step in a skincare routine; is the more of a luxury than a must-have. I started to collect tools and devices based on my desired skin outcome. To aid in cleansing, tightening or simply something fun to try. Tools and Devices can be quite pricey so if you are looking to purchase any of these below, here are my thoughts that may or may not help you take the plunge.

THE SKIN EDIT : HAIR

More than two years ago I decided to grow out my hair. I have never had long hair so this was an experiment. Cut to 2020 and I finally got a maintenance haircut, suffice to say I have more than just a few inches on the top and shaved sides. The allure for growing my hair was to try something new but also to see how my hair maintenance would fair. Having short, thin Asian hair requires daily applications of styling products, hairspray, and prayer, so the idea of growing it out into a ponytail was ideal. Now having long hair I agree that I hardly ever use styling products however I am way more conscious of what I put on my hair, as I have a lot more to take care of. Here is my current edit for Hair and some of the products I have used over the two years.

SKIN EDIT: CLEAN IN 2019

I am not a dermatologist, expert or guru. However I do have a Face, Skin, Hair, etc... so that makes me a consumer at the very least. These are my honest opinions on each Claim the product... well claims to do.

This month's Edit I thought why not tackle the 2019 skincare topic of 'Clean'. In the age of being 'woke' and conscious consumption, there are so many buzz words around how can you actually know what is Clean: Natural, Vegan, Organic, Neutral or Conscious?! These words can be confusing as, and do they really have much effective than other brands? I have a dream to live a uber-healthy, zen, temple lifestyle, but until then it's little steps. So here is a list of different types of products that you can start building your temple. Whether its to replace something that you have that isn't effective or to get you thinking about what you are putting on your largest organ daily, its food for thought especially a new year upon us.

Boy oh Boy - Boy de Chanel

Last year Chanel launched Boy de Chanel, the brand's first make up line for Men. Not that Men need a dedicated line; makeup does not discriminate though it can be very intimidating. Upon my recent travels to Europe, I took the opportunity to try out the collection... and I ended up buying it all for further testing.

I have always been of the belief that it is better to have a good skincare regime rather than covering it up with makeup. However, now I am starting to see little things like dark circles and age lines... so it wouldn't hurt to start to try somethings out. And also if you're going to try a new collection, Chanel isn't a bad start.

The Boy de Chanel's collection follows 3 Steps:

1 - MOISTURISE with Le Baume A Levres/Lip Balm
I can't miss a new Lip Balm, and this one is rather fancy. However, for $50AUD it's rather expensive for a lip balm that's not going to change your life. With that said I cry if I lose it... like a lot of my other lost my lip balms...

2 - EVEN OUT with Le Tient/Foundation
Matte finish and Lightweight, there are 8 shades of this foundation. It's quite buildable helping to even out discolouration and those lovely signs of sleep. The foundation also has SPF 25 for add sun protection and has a faint fragrance that eventually dissipates upon application.

3 - DEFINE with Le Stylo Sourcils/Eyebrow Pencil
This waterproof formula can be used for your brows and facial hair. The other end of the pencil is a fancy spoolie for brushing out any harsh lines. As basic as a brow pencil can be, its in the details where you see its value.

As groundbreaking as Florals in Spring, Boy de Chanel is simply a fancy excuse for anyone to buy some blue packaged Chanel Makeup. Could you probably get the same quality from other Chanel or Makeup brands? Probably. The products are good, exactly what you would expect from a Luxury Brand's Mens line, subtle and effective with a hint of overpriced. But like luxury brands, it's not about the need... it's want.

How to do Hobart in 4 days

This year has been the year of the short trips. It hasn't been quite easy to coordinate a proper holiday, with my study and work not to mention my partner's work and commitments. Shorter trips seem both feasible both with time and money. I have also reached that age bracket when I can say that 'it has been around 15 years since I've been' that in itself warrants a break.

You are Gold... Literally

There are so many skincare 'it' ingredients that at times it is hard to keep up with what's effective versus the ones that are simply instagramable. Charcoal, Coffee, Vitamins and Acids, the list goes on and on. Not going to lie... I have tried a majority of them if not got some things yet to try in my cupboard. Sassou Japan, is an anti-ageing skincare brand that makes products that are both cutting-edge and effective... not to mention one of their key ingredients is Gold. There is the belief that Gold can help improve circulation and skin revitalisation, such buzzwords one cannot turn away from. Realistically I find Japanese products always have a high association with quality without the need to delve into the unsavoury additives to get the same results. Last month I was lucky enough to be gifted a set of Sassou Japan products to review, aside from their benefits the products look spellbinding. Because who doesn't like or want to try gold suspended in gels and creams?
